Last year, there was absolutely no question who the top edge-rusher prospect was in the Class of 2020. It was Chase Young‘s world, and everyone else was just living in it. It was much the same case in 2019 with Young’s former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa.

The Class of 2021 doesn’t feature a “generational” prospect like Bosa or Young. The first five picks of this year’s draft will probably come and go without an edge-rusher being drafted for the first time since all the way back in 2012. In fact, when the first edge-rusher does finally come off the board, there’s quite a bit of dissent as to who that edge-rusher will be.

CONTRACT SALARY RULES:
Contracts can vary in salary from one season to next within the following restrictions
MINIMUM YEARLY SALARY: $400k minimum in any season
AVERAGE ANNUAL VALUE: The average salary for all years contracted must be equal to the AAV
LO/HI %: The lowest annual salary divided by the highest annual salary must meet or exceed the following thresholds
  • 1 yr: 100%
  • 2 yr: 70%
  • 3 yr: 60%
  • 4 yr: 50%
 
CONTRACT RESTRUCTURE:
  • Each year a franchise can restructure up to 3 contracts
  • The total remaining salary owed must be the same before and after the restructure of a contract
  • Normal contract thresholds still apply when restructuring and are applicable to the remaining years only
  • Restructuring may cause a change in the AAV however the initial contract AAV will be noted and used for any contract extensions when and if applicable
  • When restructuring, the first year of any remaining contract years must be greater in salary than the original contracted salary for that first year (player incentive to allow for restructure)
  • There is no limit as to the amount of times a contract can be restructured
  • The deadline to restructure is the same as the RFA Contract Deadline
 
CONTRACT GLOSSARY:
The following terms will be regularly used to describe terms of a contract
AAV: Average Annual Value
Balanced: Contract dollars equal to AAV in each year of the contract
Front-Loaded: Contract dollars steadily decrease throughout the life of the contract
Max Front-Loaded: Maximum possible amount given in first year where all conditions can be met
Back-Loaded: Contract dollars steadily increase throughout the life of the contract
Max Back-Loaded: Maximum possible amount given in last year where all conditions can be met
Custom: Salary varies from year to year but all conditions are still met
Note: All Taxi Squad promotions are assigned a back-loaded contract as calculated by the site.
